Welcome, come on in...
The sacred nameYHWH
I AM
I will be what I will be
Being
In a Hebrew thought any given name represents not just a person himself, but a relationship of the person (called) and the one, who gave him the name. For example: parent and child. It refers to a name as an influence, function and sort of a seal within a relationship.
In this context, God gives us, humans, His name and it signifies a particular aspect of His glory that He chooses to reveal (to an individual or a nation, as a whole). Here is a reference to a relationship. It is expressed in that particular perception of His being and His character.
For example, by revealing Himself, as YHWH Rapha, He invites us to comprehend Him and experience Him as a Healer.
There is something else I perceive here: Since the Almighty hasn’t been given a name by someone else, He is never “defined” by a relationship with anyone. He sovereignly establishes who He is and Who He will be in every situation.
He is not our reflection, He doesn’t depend upon us in any way. He Himself is the initiator and the cause of “being”.
Opening move
“I will be what they / you need me to be” - both Jewish and Christian sources. agree on this interpretation.
Though this concept possibly originates from the understanding that God’s presence encompasses every area of our lives, I perceive a different focus:
God proclaims His presence/ substance as an opening move from the present moment into the future. The acknowledgment of His name actually creates / is a first step or entrance into that future, being both the road and the gate.
He wants you to draw closer
In Hebrew language there isn’t any present form of the verb “to be”. Why? Because we are taught that it’s “too holy” to be in a use of our common interactions. This form (English equivalent: being) is the sacred name YHWH (sometimes written YHVH), used in Scripture.
It is indeed most holy, but the letters reveal that we, humans, are invited into this holiness: to draw closer and not to stand too far away. This holiness cannot be approached without reverence and there is no other way, except the for the One Way, chosen by God Himself: through faith in His beloved Son, Jesus the Messiah.
The very first time the Almighty chose to reveal His sacred name to Moses, was in the context of His intervention on behalf of His people. This also confirms that the name YHWH became known not to scare us away, but rather to lead us to respond to His heart in reverence and awe.
Letters of the Name
The combination of the four Hebrew letters: you’d, hey, vav, hey contain within all three tenses (past, present and future), thus referring to the ultimate unity of purpose and vision, which permeates the realm of eternity.
1. You’d- the smallest particle, a starter, an opener, a strategic very little point, carrying greatest potential within it. The letter is in a shape of a seed and represents a purpose.
It refers to the willingness of the heart, something that touches the very essence of a person.
Faith comes by hearing the word of God. Romans 10:17
2. Hey- it stands for the breath, hovering movement. Or like a new life, which is maturing in a womb or even a brooding period, when all the energy is directed unto development and growth. The letter is in a shape of an open hand. To humans it signifies getting hold of God's Promise and breathing it in.
We then, as workers together with Him also plead with you not to receive the grace of God in vain. 2Corinthians 6:1
3. Vav - This letter is making a connection, stretching out, putting forth the value, bringing forward the meaning. It creates a bridge between the two worlds: from the hidden into the revealed.
that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Romans 10:9-10
4. Hey (second one) stands for a release. The connection is made, hearts are harmonized and the intimate interaction is possible (breathing together the same breath); new life is born and appears, becomes visible. It represents breathing out: a revelation.
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. Of His own will He brought us forth by the word of truth, that we might be a kind of first fruits of His creatures. James 1:17-18
Higher
The appearance of these four letters reveals a soft, very delicate substance, in most cases invisible or hard to recognize. Like substance of a cloud.
Cloud in Scripture is referred to as a vehicle of the movement of God: He speaks from the cloud, Moses stepped into the cloud, God led His people in the cloud, Yeshua comes on the clouds.
Clouds form a perception, reference to a reality we find ourselves in. Like sitting in an airplane and looking through the clouds. Let's go higher, into the glorious reality of eternal kingdom, where we belong!
